Bye bye TEENITUS Festival

Six years ago we put on a little festival called TEENITUS at the squat in Erfurt. A homage to Sonic Youths Noise fest in New York but foremost a tribute to the then very vital and self-fuelling local scene of bands, visual artists, partyweirdos and all the people who love that shit. What felt like a billion bands in 2 days, a ton of random deco, art, film stuff, seas of Sterni and the greatest freak out affine audience, grew into the most beautiful and enhancing endeavour in the years to come. Made by real people for real people in an east German town that is hard to chew on. Six(-six-six) years later the little crew of 30 or more hard-ass-working-no-money friends have all lived on to create many great things in their lives. And the hard core has mostly fled the pale-face-brown-jackets-bad-mood city of Erfurt. We planned to return this year yet again but we had to change our minds, too much was not going right in the process of preparing this for more than half a year. This is not a failure of a thing to happen, it’s a change of plans, an adaption to circumstances. We love the dullness of Erfurt and most of all what beautiful and strong minds have created with us in the past years and what they are up to now. And for all the souls that came down for any TEENITUS, the bands that played and all supporters in general.
We will not put on a fest in Erfurt as such in the future but we’ll be there in the sausage capital of Germany, booking deafening bands, making budgets, talking nonsense, einleuchten, line checking, bleaching off tags, carrying around beer crates.
Big love to you all.
Grinni, Kirmes, Florian, Marian and the rest of the crew!

NEW ZHOD LP!

Music to sniff glue in your bedroom to with your pals while your mum thinks you’re doing your maths homework. Oh baby. Oh baby. You haven’t heard garage rock tinged with huge sexy surfy chords like this since you last built a time machine and crashed a stand-off between Those Kids and the feds that time in pre-Rudy New York.

But seriously, what does it sound like? Congrats: you’re listening to pure, organic unfiltered rock n’rolllll! Yeah ok, you can do your Pitchforky “surf meets psychedelic meets garage meets Ian Svenonius”, and you wouldn’t be wrong, but cut straight to the heart of the music and it’s good old fashioned rock n’ roll. Track Licht’s muffled German samples kick off a sassy three-parter so good that it’s sending us sprinting back to school to pick up how to eins, zwei, drei it with the best of them. Though about as American as corn or Disney or Lou Reed, ZHOD sound like a dirty bunch of LA skater-orphans spent a year off in the Hauptstadt. Bottle up this perfect combo of reverb-fuzz-feedback-haze, we’d sprinkle it on our cereal. Tasty.

Whatever you do, do not check out Would You Rather…? in newly washed clothes in the temperate climate of your cozy bed. Disaster. Wrong. If you caught ZHOD at Fusion, Get Lost, or B-Sides Festivals, or playing gigs with their brothers & sisters from other mothers & misters Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees, then that is the correct answer to the inevitable Would You Rather…? question.

ZHOD are gorgeously grunge with your perfect dose of sweaty headbanging tunes—whip your hair back and forth like Willow Smith was never invented and King Kurt still ruled the roost.

Listen if you dig: Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Huckleberry Finn, White Fence, Man Or Astro Man?, young David Foster Wallace if he’d picked up a guitar instead of a pen, Iggy & The Stooges, Moonhearts

27.06.2014 THE STACHES

WESTGERMANY (Berlin)

THE STACHES (CH / Burning Sound)

staches02-web

To say it with Ike & Tina: The Staches play it nice and rough! Nice means you gonna meltdown with their sweet, sweaty melodies, you might wanna touch yourself, the band or random persons in the audience. Rough means they make you jump and shout and work it on out on the dancefloor, rad guitars, dripping vocals and badass bass and drums in your face! Two girls and two boys from Geneva, Switzerland, at first your mom might like them but then they gonna like your mom and then you wouldn’t know who to like at all, drama, tears, bears, sweat & dancing.

File under: californian garage / female punk of the late 70s / psych / blues

TONIGHT: POW! + CREAMS AT GOLDHORN, LEIPZIG!

Tonite POW! are finally playing again! The Band went through the most horrible nightmare a touring band could go through, and we are happy that they continue their tour tonight.

POW! (US // Castle Face)

pow 2
POW! emerges from the tech-waste of the shiny/shitty new San Francisco – deep 80’s synth bass percolating under the circuit-swamp-fried-egg guitar…the drums a teenage tiger’s heartbeat and vocals delivered like a dead-pan face-slap from a kid half your age.

CREAMS (GER // Hidden Structures)

Creams
Deep-wave-noise sound is what comes out of creams, its somehow psychedelic as well. Leipzig, you should know that you only have a couple of good bands, and you can count creams as one of them.
